In the craziness of day to day life, it is so easy to pop into social media, scroll through and think “dang, these people have such great lives”…
We see a mom’s night out with hair and make up perfectly in place. We see the spelling bee winning daughter beaming and hugging her mom. We see the toddler playing sweetly with his big brother. We see the newborn being welcomed by his siblings. We see the celebration of another anniversary…
And yes, those are all the moments we should see – it’s not fake or misleading to show the world the beautiful moments. Because those are the moments we want to remember, the ones we want etched in our hearts forever. The ones that when we look back on today, we want to have focused on…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But what we don’t see is that the make up was applied in the car, the curls are last nights with a little dry shampoo. The daughter came home and melted down over homework. The little brother bit the big brother two minutes later. The newborn isn’t sleeping at any of the hours the rest of the family should. And that anniversary dinner is the first kid free night in months…
And those exhausting moments are important to. They are the moments that make the beautiful ones more beautiful. They are the teaching moments. They are the trenches of motherhood and we all know them well…
Because our days are equally made of the wonderful and the exhausting as mamas. But at the end of the day, it’s the one we choose to focus on that determines how we think the day went.
So the next time you are scrolling those beautiful moments, take a moment to see what beauty is surrounding you too. Because it’s there mama, you just have to look for it…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
