Why you need a professional headshot to set you above the competition.
I know what you are thinking, why do I need a professional headshot? I don’t wear a suit. I’m not on Linked In. I’m running a business from home & through social media…
But in today’s world, that is exactly who does need a great headshot. Think about it – when you go to poke around and see what all the hype is about, you want to see that the person representing the product reflects the product and knows their $hit! And so do your customers! They want to see an authority in the field. They want to see that YOU value your business and YOU know your stuff.
So tell me, what says, “I’ve got this” better: a selfie with a messy kitchen in the background, or almost worse, a car seat or an image like the one above? Who would you defer to if given the choice? Someone who looks like they said, “dang, I need a about me photo… okay, this will do” or someone who took the time to pull themselves together and have a professional photographer put their best face forward?
Remember, if you are running your own business, like it or not, you will become the identity of the brand. And in today’s world, with so many of us relying on social media to promote our business, every time we work to drive traffic, that face of the brand pops up along with it. I can honestly say that I have passed over certain vendors or professionals because, well, they don’t look professional.
Sure many of us are running lifestyle based brands in which part of what you are selling is the life change benefits of not being in an office and you want to show that… But a “professional” headshot does NOT mean you need to dress in business attire. Not at all! Heck, if you work in yoga pants, show that off – but do it with an image taken by a professional. A casually posed image of you at the kitchen table with your laptop working in your “office” is absolutely great if it is well lit and thought out. But you are not going to get that by having your husband snap a quick shot on the iPhone.
