Election day… as the nation heads out to vote for the next president, my little Monkey’s 1st grade class will be voting in their own mock-election. She came home last night excited to tell us how she was “running for President” and how many votes she had that day. While we reminded her that results can change from the polling time to actual election day and that no matter what we loved her, I couldn’t be more proud of her for wanting to take a stand. She told us how she would have to give a speech at recess and that she planned to talk about how she would always tell the truth and that she would be kind. Many of us have spent the last year and half searching for a candidate who would do just that…
This election seems to have divided our citizens in ways that I have never seen before. It feels the polar opposite of what I felt September 11th. I can only hope that beginning tomorrow, our nation will find a way to come together and treat each other with kindness, honesty and respect. And I hope that we as a nation have learned from this election to expect more morality and dignity in future elections and leaders. To seek to lift up people our children can admire.
I believe it begins with us – it begins by us treating each other with love and respect… But enough of my personal soap box for now…
Really, I just want to say that in the midst of a crazy time in my life, new baby and all, I am a very proud mama…
XOXO
