I went to wake up this beauty the other morning and was struck… all at once I could see the baby she was and the young lady she was growing into.
She’s at that magical in between stage when chubby cheeks have melted away but baby soft skin remains. She has the wit of a teen – and sometimes the sass too – but the heart of a child. Problems are shifting from skinned knees to emotional bruises. She is my right-hand-kid but still my baby… and as I notice how the physical signs of baby have all but faded that it is just as important to capture these moments as those fleeting ones from her first year… I want to be sure that for all of them I am capturing childhood in photographs so that I can look back and see the little ones I know so well now. Not frantic snapshots of leaving for church on Christmas Eve, but calm frames where they can shine… For this sweet girl, it’s the stillness and observation of this current age that stops me in my tracks. My high energy, never stopping toddler has become a serene and sweet reflector of emotions who is revealing an old soul in ways we did not expect. It’s amazing to see the little lady she is transforming into before our eyes. And I don’t want to miss it…
Because I will blink again and long to see the sweet expressions of 7…
